2. FAMILIARIZATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarization must also be given when:
job description or work tasks change
working methods or work instruments change
an occupational accident occurs
the situation differs from normal or is uncommon / rare
Certain personal protective equipment, such as hard hats, work outfits, and safety
shoes are required at work in all production areas. Additionally, there are requirements
for certain task-specific personal protective equipment.
Certain jobs require formal competence that the worker needs to be aware of and obtain
before attempting the job. Valid qualification and competency certificates are required.
Licensed work includes e.g.:
hot work and hot work on the roof
work in tanks and pipe work
electrical work
asbestos work
lifting operations
use of personal lifting devices
moving, installing, or taking down scaffolding
moving, installing, or dismantling of gas lines
use of a forklift
fixing gas hoses
as well as any other type of work that is subject to license
Workers performing electrical work must have a valid electrical safety license and
special first aid training that is required for electricians.
Even the best safety equipment and safety instructions are not enough, it is also
necessary to:
follow the instructions carefully and see that the safety rules are obeyed
have courage to ask questions before beginning a job,
if you are unsure of the situation
be alert and constantly monitor the working environment
be able to recognize potential dangers
