14. Traffic and transport
Objects that are transported at the yards are often much bigger and heavier than
in normal transportation. Therefore, they need more space. There are also moving
cranes in the working area and their movements may cause unexpected situations.
The basic rule is that others give way to multi wheel trailers and other transport,
hoisting and lifting devices.
General instructions
Escape routes must always be kept free! Therefore parking vehicles on escape routes
is absolutely forbidden.
Obey the general traffic rules and instructions given by traffic signs at the yard. It is
allowed to park only in designated areas.
Use designated bicycle and pedestrian routes. If there are none, walk by the roadside.
It is allowed to park bicycles only in bicycle racks and shelters. It is not allowed to leave
bicycles and other items on crane rails!
Obey the speed limits. Be careful and slow down when working near rails (e.g. crane
rails or railroad).
Be especially careful when there is limited visibility (e.g. when reversing, or at the corners
of the buildings and workshops, or near open doors).
Don’t get on or off from a moving vehicle. Never transport people on a truck platform.
Don’t block any road. Always leave room for transportation. Never stop on the crane
rails. In exceptional cases, arrange guarding with safety devices in order to prevent any
collisions.
Always keep the fire and emergency routes free! Never park in fire and emergency
routes.
When lifting with a reach truck follow the same lifting instructions as in any other hoisting
(see chapter 12).
