9. PHYSICAL LOAD
9.3. Proper posture is the basis
for ergonomic load
Ergonomic spine and joints load is possible when the body’s central lines are in place.
In this case, the spine viewed from the front or back appears to be straight. The spine
viewed from the side is ”straight”, i.e. vertebrae along with discs are in the proper
position. The spine in your neck (cervical spine) has a slight inward curve, the upperto
mid back (thoracic spine) curves outward slightly; the lower back (lumbar spine)
has a slight inward curve. The head is in the natural central position and the neck and
shoulders are relaxed
Maintain ergonomic standing posture engaging the
lower extremities and abdomen muscles.
Try to keep your weight evenly distributed over
both of your feet and knees in central position.
If, due to work task, you have to keep your weight
more on one foot, try to shift sides.
!
To prevent discomfort, avoid standing with putting
pressure on joints for too long, so called ”hip-rest,”
or keeping knees inward.
Remember, good posture means that the upper
back is relaxed and slightly outward, it is not stiff
and not pushing the chest forward.
