16. WELDING AND FLAME CUTTING
Using flashback and backfire arresters may prevent effects of the flashback and
backfire.
Safety gear according to the standard SFS 5900.
A backfire arrester A flashback arrester An anti-burst control
A backfire arrester is fitted to the blow-pipe. There is a non-return valve and
flame arrester in the backfire arrester. They stop the backfire from getting through the
blowpipe.
A flashback arrester is fitted to the pressure regulator valve of the gas cylinder or to
the valve in the distribution manifold. There is a non-return valve, flame arrester and
flow shut-off valves in the flashback arrester. The flow shut-off valve reacts to both
temperature and pressure. The flashback arrester prevents the gas from flowing in the
wrong direction and the flame from getting into the cylinder or distribution network.
An anti-burst control valve is fitted to the pressure regulator valve in the gas cylinder
(max. 4 bars). The valve gets closed if the gas flow gets too high (the hose gets disconnected
or damaged). Press the reloading button of the valve after re-connection.
The backfire arrester, flashback arrester and anti-burst control valve are all
safety gear and it is prohibited to remove them.
