10. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Foot protection
Suitable footwear protects the feet well
against bruises by falling objects, sparks,
splashes, and splatter, etc.
It is mandatory to use safety shoes in
the production facilities.
Head protection
Safety helmets (hard hats) protect the
worker against impacts and bruises
on the head. It is especially important
to use a helmet when working in con-
fined spaces. It also gives some
protection against impact of falling
objects.
Adjust the helmet in such a way that it
stays firmly in your head. Leave some
empty space between the helmet
and the top of your head. A chinstrap
prevents the helmet from falling off.
Never paint the helmet nor clean it with
solvents. That will reduce the service life
of the helmet. The helmets get brittle
over time when used or stored, so their
service life is always limited. When working
inside their service life is no longer
than five years, in outside use only three
years. If the helmet has a UV sensor, it
changes the color to give signal to the
user, when the helmet must be replaced.
Replace the helmet if it has been under
strong impact, if it is damaged or exposed
to chemicals.
It is mandatory to use a safety helmet.
