12. HOISTING
Fastenings
Always fully tighten the shackle pin. Use only shackles that have
been marked with SWL (Safe Working Load) or SSK (Suurin sallittu
kuorma = maximum permissible load). Replace the shackle if it
shows any sign of wear, is bent, or in any other way defective. A safety
pin must to be used with A shackles secured by nut and bolt.
Screw the lifting eye all the way down so that the surfaces touch.
Do not load the lifting eye in the direction of its hole (no diagonal
loading). Fasten the lifting wire rope sling to the eye with a shackle.
Use only lifting eyes that are certified for lifting operations (with a
CE marking and a marking of the maximum permissible load).
Make sure the fastening points are strong enough when you are
fastening lifting lugs to the item you want to lift. Think of the direc-
tion of the stress in advance and fasten the lifting lug accordingly.
If you are lifting an item with sharp edges, use a piece of wood,
edge protectors or other packing between the strap, wire rope
slings or chain and the sharp edge to make the edges less likely to
cause damage.
The picture below illustrates some examples of dangerous lifting
gear. Do not use these types of gear. Destroy defective ropes, lifting
straps and covered straps to avoid accidental usage. Take defective
chains and catches to maintenance.
