8. Risk Factors in the Working Environment
Working in a cold environment
The combined effect of wind and frost
easily causes frostbites. If you are exposed
to cold for a long time, it is possible
to get frostbitten, even if the temperature
is above zero (depending on the conditions,
even in temperatures as high as +10
o C). If you work outside in cold weather,
remember to wear several layers of
clothing to ensure you are well protected
from the cold. You can always remove
layers as needed. Remember to protect
your face, too, because your cheeks, ears,
nose, and chin are susceptible to freezing.
Frost/freeze creams do not protect from
frost.
Working in a hot environment
Working in a hot environment has
an impact on your physical and mental
capacity. It is important that you remember
to drink enough water, approximately
1-2 deciliters (4-8 ounces) 3-4 times
an hour. Be aware of the loss of salt your
body experiences through perspiration.
And take breaks to shorten the length
of time you are exposed to the heat.
Occupational safety and health officials
recommend to take a 10-15 minute break
every hour if the temperature exceeds
+28 ° C.
