22. FIRST AID FOR COMMON INJURIES
Foreign bodies in the eye
Do not to rub the eye.
Flush the eye. Flutter the eye when flushing it.
Have your eye checked at the medical room if you suspect you have a foreign
body in your eye.
A metallic foreign body in your eye may cause e.g. a “rust ring” if not
removed in time.
Eye bruises or strains
In case of eye injury, e.g. wound, strain or puncture, cover both eyes.
When a healthy eye is covered, it will prevent eye movement
in the affected eye.
Lay the person down until professional help arrives.
A burn in the eye
Cool the eye under running cold water for approx. 15-30 minutes.
Cover the eye with a light dressing.
Get further medical treatment.
Chemical splash in the eye
Flush the eye(s) with water immediately for at least 15 minutes.
Check if there are other special instructions.
Even if irritation is gone after flushing, get further medical treatment.

must be available in all workplaces
where chemicals are used. Make
yourself familiar with them
instructions in advance!
