9. Physical load
9.1 The body needs physical activity
Our body needs physical exertion. Various joints and muscle disorders are usually
caused by sudden and strong, or mild but repeated mistakes in physical load. Mistakes
may be for example in positions, movements, body structure or posture. Continuous
stationary working postures can predispose to different disorders. Unilateral
muscle tightness, which pulls our posture off from the central line, may also be the
reason for discomfort.
Look for causal links
Pain usually results from overload of the sore area. The opposite of overexertion is
underexertion condition, which is presented in other parts of the body. Identification
and correction of underexertion reduces overexertion. The body must be examined as
a whole, no matter where the pain occurs.
Good body control makes your activities easier even in difficult work situations. Body
control also helps to prevent accidents.
9.2 Things to remember!
1. Follow occupational safety instructions.
2. Plan your work carefully before it starts.
3. Avoid a sense of rush and work in a regularly
controlled manner.
4. Use working aids for the job.
5. Systematically check and adjust your working
posture and movements.
6. Take breaks.
7. Do restorative exercises.
8. Keep up good state of alertness
and concentration.
9. Take care of satisfactory general condition.
10. Have patience to ask for and give help.
