3. SHIPBUILDING AND HEALTH
Everyone has bad days at times and
sometimes it is difficult to be friendly.
However, it is important to get your job
done without compromising safety.
Appropriate behavior and giving sufficient
information, even if you are in a
bad mood, strengthens community and
mental well-being.
Supervisors should have fair management
approach and treat all subordi-
nates equally. Inappropriate behavior
and discrimination at the workplace is
forbidden, and it must be interrupted.
At worst, it can result in long-term sick
leave and is considered harassment.
Mental overload and pressures at work
are often caused by conflicts in the working
community. Factors related to the
employee’s private life can have influences
on his / her work attitudes. It is important
to have the courage to speak about
your concerns, feelings or experiences in
your own department with your supervisor
or the occupational safety and health
representatives. This is how the conflict
resolution process starts. Anger and bitterness
that last for years can wear you
out and steal joy from your life and work.
The table on the following page helps us to
assess how exposure to hazardous substances
and situations affects people’s
health. You can get more information
from the occupational safety and health
representatives. At work you are constantly
making choices. Each employee
chooses working methods and protec-
tive measures based on the risk factors
relating to their specific job. The supervisor
should also assess risk factors when
assigning work to his people.
