Any person who is intoxicated
at work site is a serious risk to
himself or herself and to others.
A person being under the influence
of alcohol, drugs or other intoxicants
should be immediately
removed from the workplace. It
is absolutely forbidden to have
alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants,
to use them or to be intoxicated
at work place.
In the event of an accident it is
possible that the insurance company
will offer a reduced amount
of compensation or refuse the
payment entirely if the person
was found to be intoxicated.
Working under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other, together with a serious vio-
lation of safety regulations could be a sufficient reason for immediate termination
of the work contract.
It is everyone’s obligation to deal with problems relating to alcohol, drugs and other
intoxicants. By raising the issue early in a confidential way tells the person that his or
her problem has been noticed, and this could be enough to lead to a positive outcome.
Not touching the issue could have the opposite effect.
Companies usually have instructions on how to deal with problems caused by intoxication.
Substance abuse programs are made together with staff representatives. The
principle is an absolute zero tolerance. Each company has their own measures to apply
to the violations. Many employers provide arrangements for treatment. If you are not
sure whom to ask, you could contact the Occupational Health Representatives.
Smoking endangers your own health
and also the health of others. Smoking
together with other exposures at work
multiplies the risk of diseases. According
to the law you are not allowed to expose
others to cigarette smoke.
Smoking
Follow statutory and site specific rules
regarding smoking. It is absolutely forbidden
to smoke in places where there is
a risk for fire or explosion, e.g. in spaces
that are being painted, or in gas distribution
centers!
