1. IMPROVING SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S CONCERN
1.5 Restricting or reducing a danger
If there is a danger that cannot be fully eliminated, try to restrict it. One of the most
important methods of restricting danger is to keep the fire doors shut in the vessel.
1.6 Isolating
If the risks cannot be eliminated using the methods mentioned above, isolate the risk
zone in order to minimize the exposure. For example, safety guards in the equipment
and structural blockades are effective means for isolating an area.
1.7 Personal Protective Equipment
If isolating is not a feasible option, you should use personal protective equipment to
manage the risks. It is the employer’s responsibility to provide the necessary personal
protective equipment (PPE). The principal company normally has a lot of knowledge
regarding PPE, and also personnel working with maintenance of PPE. You can get valuable
information from them on how to choose appropriate PPE, how to maintain
and use it. All PPE must have a CE marking.
1.8 Warning
It is not enough that you notice the risks at work. Remember also to inform others
about them.
Everyone is responsible both for their own safety and for the safety of others.
