22. First Aid for Common Injuries
Taking action in case of emergencies
1. QUICKLY ASSESS THE SITUATION
What has happened? An accident? A bout of illness?
Check response: check if the person is conscious.
If the patient is unconscious, call for emergency help.
2. EMERGENCY CALL
Make an emergency call at the workplace emergency number.
Explain shortly what has happened.
Give the location (address, building, ship, production hall).
Give answers to the questions.
Don’t hang up before given permission to do so.
Remember to direct the first aid personnel to the place of accident.
If the person’s condition changes, recall the emergency center.
3. RESQUE
Resque those whose lives are in danger and prevent further accidents.
Do not put your or others health at risk.
4. FIRST AID
Give necessary first aid. Keep the patient warm and calm.
Observe the patient until professional help arrives.
5. DIRECT
Remember to direct helpers
to the location of accident
Always make yourself familiar
with the workplace emergency
procedures. Find out where are
the closest first-aid kits
and become acquainted
with it.
