15. EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS
Maintenance:
Equipment should be stopped for cleaning, greasing or repair. If it is necessary to perform
such work while the equipment is running, there needs to be a competent and
careful skilled worker, appointed by the supervisor, to do the job.
Locking of the starting device prevents the equipment starting accidentally.
After you have disconnected the equipment from the power source
(electrical, pneumatic or other energy) always test if you can switch
the equipment on before and after any maintenance work on it.
If you have removed a safety guard, an instruction plate, or a warning sign
because of the repair work, you are personally responsible for replacing it
before starting the work after repair.
Operation:
Remove chips from a machine tool only with a brush or hook.
It is dangerous to feed small items to a wood mill – use a special handle
for feeding.
It is possible that a drill will get stuck to the item you are drilling and the item
starts rotating together with the drill bit, which may cause injuries. You can
prevent such a situation if you fasten the item well.
In certain milling operations, e.g. when drilling with a pillar drilling machine,
it is forbidden to use gloves in order to keep them from getting stuck
to the rotating drill bit.
Be aware that a mechanical hit or wedging of an item between a grinding
disc and support can cause the grinding disc of a bench-grinding machine
to break (the maximum allowable span between the grinding disc and
the support is 2 mm).
Make sure that hand power tools can’t start by mistake (e.g. if you use
pneumatic tools, disconnect air supplies after your job).
Make sure that the safety trigger of the pneumatic tool is in working
condition.
