9.6 Use the right and the left side of your body
Many working postures and movements are repeated day after day. Weight distrib-
uted equally on right and left side of your body stresses the joints and strengthens the
muscles symmetrically. This is a very important aspect for prevention of discomfort as
well as health promotion and enhancing physical performance.
Note that changing the side during working to so called weaker one, sometimes
improves safety when working in difficult conditions or awkward postures. Visibility
and balance can be improved, access to support is easier and work does not require
much physical effort when working posture is more comfortable and straight.
When you squat down, put your right leg
forward for a while, and then your left leg
forward.
Distribute weight on right and left side of
your body as equally as possible.
Plan and manage physical load ergonomically.
Learn new working practices gradually,
without forgetting safety.
Generally it is not possible to change the structure of the environment and working
tools. Therefore, the way you use your body and doing restorative exercises are important.
When improving work ergonomics, take into account the possibility to use right
and left sides of the body.
