2. Familiarization and qualifications
A new employee is not familiar with the routines and working
methods of the new workplace, even if he or she is
an experienced worker.
Each worker must have a valid occupational safety card.
Workers performing hot work and hot work guard must have a valid hot work card.
A new worker has to participate in the site specific familiarization training arranged
by the Client (Principal Company). Training session shall cover such topics as:
risks and dangers at the work place
protection against hazards
environmental impacts
traffic arrangements and
actions in emergency situations
Additionally, the worker’s supervisor must give him / her task-specific training and
help in any problem situations.
The worker’s supervisor will:
introduce the new worker to his / her working environment
train him / her how to act in emergency situations
instruct on how to use equipment and machinery
instruct on how to act in case of failure occurrence and disturbance situations
train the new worker how to handle chemicals
how to protect himself / herself from chemicals, and how to sort waste.
When providing familiarization trainings to foreign workers special attention must be
paid to e.g. language barriers and cultural differences.
